Thistle Awards
The Scottish Archery Association awards
Thistle badges for achievement in shooting the Fita round. Most Fita rounds in
Scotland which are not Fita Stars are granted Thistle
status. Occasionally, a shoot will be granted Thistle status as well as Star
status (as was the case for the 1992 Euronations, held in Scotland). The
badges are awarded for the same score levels as Fita Stars.
I got my 1000 thistle in my first serious season of competitive shooting, in
1990.
I also got my 1100 thistle in my first serious season of competitive shooting,
in 1990.
I got my 1200 thistle in 1991, at the same tournament that I got my 1100 the
previous year. My first 1200 wasn't a Thistle or a Star. The shoot I
was going to go to (which was a Thistle status competition) was cancelled
because of flooding, so I went to a hastily-arranged substitute competition.
I don't have a picture of this thistle, because I haven't got one yet
.
As far as I know, only one recurve archer (Simon Needham) has got a 1300
thistle.
